From Curaçao. To SBS6. CurHydro’s story is heading to Dutch television, bringing a glimpse of local hydroponic growing and the ambition behind it to Building the Future (Bouwen aan de Toekomst).

On 29 October 2026, we welcomed the Prime Time Television crew to our farm at Plantage Santa Catharina. From interviews among the crops to close-up views of our growing systems, the filming day captured the people, practical work and purpose behind CurHydro.

Our island. Our food. Our future.

CurHydro began in 2018 with a belief that continues to guide us: Curaçao can grow more of its fresh food closer to home. Since 2023, we have supplied commercially grown lettuce and leafy vegetables from Plantage Santa Catharina.

For us, local growing is about more than a harvest. It is about freshness, knowledge and the long-term capacity of our island to feed its community. Every growing cycle is another opportunity to learn, improve and build toward that future.

Growing with care, from roots to harvest

The upcoming feature explores how hydroponics works: plants grow without soil, receiving nutrients through water that passes their roots and is reused. Careful water use has particular meaning on an island where drinking water is produced from seawater.

Growing in a tropical climate also takes persistence. Heat, humidity and healthy roots all need attention. Our story includes the observation, testing and everyday adjustments that turn an idea into practical experience.

A vision that keeps growing

We are working toward an expansion that could bring more growing space, cooling and packing facilities, and greater use of solar energy. These are plans for the next stage, with financing still needed. The ambition is to support more local food production, employment and shared knowledge in Curaçao.

This television appearance is a chance to share that journey: where we started, what we are learning and what we hope to build next.
